6th Grade Band
This group is made up of 6th grade students who play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. If you are entering the 6th grade, have not yet played an instrument, and you are interested in joining this group, please speak to Ms. Kwiczor. This group meets all year long and performs in both the Winter and Spring Concerts as well as various other events and competitions.
7th and 8th Grade Band
This group is made up of 7th and 8th grade students who play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. This group meets all year long and performs in both the Winter and Spring Concerts as well as various other events and competitions. Contact Ms. Kwiczor for more information and special circumstances.
Orchestra
This group is made up of string players in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Students in this group play violin, viola, cello, and upright bass. If you are entering as a violin player you may talk to your teacher about playing viola, cello, or bass. If you are entering the 6th grade, have not yet played an instrument, and are interested in joining this group, please speak to Ms. Kwiczor. This group meets all year long and performs in both the Winter and Spring Concerts as well as various other events and competitions.
Our After School Ensembles
These ensembles are like clubs and meet after school.
Jazz Band
This group rehearses from October to May once a week on Tuesdays after school until 3:15pm. There is no audition for this group, but you must have at least 2-3 years of previous playing experience on your instrument, or comparable skill. If you have less experience, you are welcome to try. If the music is too hard, you can always join next year when you are more ready! All types of instruments are welcome. This group performs in the Small Ensembles Concert in May as well as other events. Rehearsals usually start in October.
String Club
This group rehearses once a week on Mondays after school until 3:15pm. This group performs alternative style string music such as traditional American fiddle music, Irish tunes, blues, other kinds of folk music, and you name it! There is no audition for this group. Any student who has a stringed instrument is welcome, regardless of playing ability. Beginners are welcome! As long as you have an instrument, you can join! Stringed instruments include: violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, etc. This group performs in the Small Ensembles Concert in May as well as other venues TBA.
HOW TO JOIN
All students are invited to be a part of instrumental music at Washington Middle School. It is important to sign up for band during the end of your 5th grade year (if you are currently in elementary school), or at the very beginning of the school year in grades 6 through 8. If you are interested in joining the band, it is strongly recommend that you email the director to be sure you are on his/her roster. Contact the director with any questions you may have.
